What it is

A government-wide hackathon organised by the AI Tooling Meetup Group of GSA's AI Community of Practice: participants prototype MCP servers and AI agents against real federal open data and service-delivery use cases. Training runs in August, kickoff in September, with repository submission mid-October and final presentations at the end of October. Deliverables include a documented GitHub repo, a presentation deck, and evaluation documentation covering testing, performance and security.

Our take

MCP is the fastest-moving standard in the agent ecosystem, and this is one of the first large institutional hackathons built entirely around it. If you're gov-adjacent, the eligibility wall that keeps everyone else out is exactly what makes your odds — and the visibility of a winning federal MCP prototype — unusually good. Dates are still being finalised; watch the official page.
